These Banana Cream Pie Krispie Treats are seriously like eating a banana cream pie with the crust…but in krispie treat form!
Do you know what happens if someone sets tons of frozen food on top of a frozen pie crust in the freezer? Any guesses?
I guess it would depend on the pressure of the setting. Let’s assume LOTS of pressure. As in, the freezer is full to the gills with cupcakes and bars and cookies and there is just no extra room for, say, frozen meals or peas, so things get shoved and pushed into holes. {That happens to everyone, right? Frozen cupcake overload?}
You guessed it – the pie shells break. Especially if they’ve been removed from their protective plastic barrier and placed in a ziploc bag, because someone is cray-cray and thinks the freezer is a safe place.
What do you do in that situation? Can’t bake a pie in a broken shell, right?
But you can bake a broken shell into a pie. Are you following?
These Banana Cream Pie Rice Krispie Treats really are banana cream pie. But they’re also krispie treats. They’re crunchy and marshmallowy…and they taste like banana cream pie. And guess what? They’re filled with pie crust.
Oh, yes I did. And it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Kind of like when I put crust in banana cream pie ice cream.
Speaking of pie crust, in case you didn’t know, for the past few months I’ve been a contributor to the Marie Callender’s Meals Blog. I’ve written posts on pie (of course) but also on photos, crafts, and even Pi Day.
In honor of Mother’s Day next weekend, Marie Callender’s sent me some coupons for free pie. Free pie = happy Dorothy, if you ask me! I received 10 coupons for free Marie Callender’s Pies to share with family and friends, so they could slow down, relax, and have a little pie.
I shared my coupons with some of my friends: busy moms who deserve a sweet treat after a long day. That way they can relax at their next family dinner because dessert is taken care of – or they can just hide in a closet with a fork and a romance novel. Whatever they prefer. 🙂
I’m also “Paying it forward” and sharing some FREE pies with you, my wonderful readers. I have 5 coupons still to give away, and I couldn’t think of anyone I’d rather give them to more! Scroll on down below the recipe to enter to win a coupon for a FREE pie! Then, this Mother’s Day you can relax and know that the dessert is done. It’ll be one less thing for you to check off your list.
And because I am in love with Marie Callender’s (obvi) I decided to take one my favorite products of theirs, the Frozen Pie Crusts, and make a pie…in krispie treat form. Because, well. That’s what I do, right?
These krispie treats are made in the usual fashion, with rice cereal, butter, and marshmallows. But I added two things that have seriously changed the way I will eat krispie treats forever: pie crust and pudding mix. My friend Aimee over at Shugary Sweets has been adding pudding to her krispie treats forever and OMG why have I not been doing it too?
I had a Marie Callender’s frozen pie crust in my freezer that got broken accidentally, so I baked it up and broke it into pieces. There were two cups of pie chunks and somehow I managed not to inhale them. Instead, I mixed them with the rice krispie cereal as the base of the treats.
After melting the butter and marshmallows together, I added pudding mix to it. Banana Cream Pudding Mix. And OMG the result? It tastes like a banana cream pie! I swear people, the ideas are exploding in my head from this experience, so hold onto your pie crusts and get ready for some awesome.
The result? A rice krispie treat that tastes like a banana cream pie. Seriously. Complete with a crust.
Never has an overstuffed freezer netted something so fantastic. It almost makes me want to stuff the freezer with even more goodies…

Recipe Notes
- You can use any flavor instant pudding mix to change up the flavors of the treats.
- Make these in the microwave by melting the marshmallows and butter in a very large microave safe bowl, stirring every 45 seconds until melted and smooth.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. I do not recommend freezing rice krispies treats.

Thanks Carolyn!! Enjoy!
Do you use instant or cook and serve pudding?
Instant!
Hi I live in New Zealand and not sure what the banana cream pie pudding mix is. Could I use something else or is it like instant pudding. Hope you can help would love to make these.
It is instant pudding. Do you have that in Australia? I know in the UK they have “Angel Delight” which is like our pudding mix. You may be able to try mashed banana instead, but I’m not sure if that would get brown. Let me know what you’re able to do!
Love these!!
Ah! Love these! LOVE! Can life get better than pie crust in a rice krispy treat? Looks great!
Erica, my B.F.’s mother, and my niece’s husband both have birthdays on the same day too!

Do you add the pudding mix in dry?
Yes! Just the dry mix goes into the marshmallows. 🙂
