How do you make Marshmallow Pie?

  1. Combine the marshmallows and milk in a saucepan and warm them over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture is smooth and the marshmallows are melted.
  2. Take the saucepan off the heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  3. Whip the cream and vanilla in a large bowl until the mixture holds stiff peaks.
  4. Fold the whipped cream into the cooled marshmallow mixture and then pour the filling into the pie crust.
  5. Chill the marshmallow pie for at least two hours or until it’s set.

Can you melt marshmallows with milk? Absolutely, and it’s how you get that smooth marshmallow mixture to mix with the whipped cream.

Recipe Swap

Crust: Instead of graham crackers, you can make any no bake cookie crust that you like. Try an Oreo crust, shortbread cookie crust, or Nutter Butter cookie crust.

Marshmallows: You can use mini marshmallows or large ones – just use 10 ounces total. Or, try using flavored marshmallows to change up the flavor of the pie.

Garnishes: Serve slices of this pie with whipped cream on top, sprinkle crushed graham crackers over the top, or sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top. You can also add a drizzle of chocolate sauce to make it even more like a s’more.

Storing and Make-Ahead Instructions

You can make marshmallow pie up to a day in advance. Wait to add any toppings until you’re ready to serve it.

Store leftover pie loosely covered in the refrigerator for two days.

  2. For years we thought this was our own secret family recipe! Our guests were always unfamiliar with it. Mother put dark shaved chocolate on top. The first time I made it I didn’t cool the marshmallow mixture. I got a chocolate pie!! We have it every holiday, and it is a fond memory of our well loved mother!

  3. My daughter was making up a random idea for pie and said “let’s make marshmallow pie” so I googled it and came across this recipe, I also used the graham cracker crust recipe. Thanks so much for sharing, my life is forever changed! 🙂

  4. I have never seen a recipe for marshmallow pie. It was super easy to make. I topped it with mini chocolate chips. Tasted like a s’more. Very good.
