Copycat Mint Shake - this popular copycat shake recipe is made dairy-free and lower sugar! It's an EASY milkshake recipe that is perfect for mint lovers.

It would seem that I’m on a mint kick, doesn’t it? I mean, Mint Chip Oreos the other day and now this mint shake…I think I like this trend. I can’t help myself, really. As soon as one holiday is over I’m ready for the next one. I’m like Target that way: it’s barely Christmas Eve and all the Valentine’s Day stuff is out. Now the the big V DAY is over, I’m onto the next one: St. Patrick’s Day!

Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? To be honest, I like the mint and rainbow food more than I like the actual day. When I was in Wisconsin a few weeks ago, they talked about how the Irish holiday is a huge one there. Maybe it’s because I’m in California that it’s not such a huge deal? If I remember what day it is I’ll wear green and make mashed potatoes for dinner…and maybe this copycat mint shake for dessert.

You know what shake this is a copycat of, right? That famous one that is sold by the fast-food chain? If I’m being honest, I’ve never actually had one of those shakes. I always want to…and then I realize how much sugar, fat, and calories are in them. I set out to try and make a skinny mint shake version that tastes just as good, but is not as bad for your diet.

Want to know one of the secrets of this shake? There’s NO ice cream in it at all. None, not a bit. The sweet and thick flavor comes from pudding mix! And before you yell at me about all the sugar in pudding mix, I used sugar-free. You can use what you like, but I didn’t miss that sugar one little bit.

In addition to the pudding mix and ice, you need some sort of liquid to blend it all together. I decided to go one step further and not only make this a lower calorie shake version but also a dairy-free one too. There’s no dairy in this shake at all!

Copycat Mint Shake with Almond Breeze

This shake is made with Almond Breeze Almondmilk. You can use any flavor you want (refrigerated or shelf-stable) but I always buy the Unsweetened Vanilla. It’s what I drink in my protein drinks, smoothies, and on my cereal. I always have at least 2 cartons in my fridge, and it’s always Almond Breeze because I like it the best. (He who sells the best almonds makes the best almondmilk, don’t you think?)

This copycat mint shake recipe couldn’t be easier to make: throw it all into the blender with some ice and blend it up.

Add more ice if you like it frostier, but I’m a “thin” shake lover so I used less. Some peppermint extract and a bit of green food coloring turns it into a shamrock like drink, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.

  1. Well, I am definitely going to have to try this to compare! I love mint and I have a 3 year old mintaholic great grandson so I will let you know what we think on this as soon as I can get things bought and put together but your recipe sounds delicious.

  2. I was excited by the prospect of this healthy version of the MCD shake. Went out and bought the ingredients to make this for my family. Unfortunately, no one would eat it. Definitely not a copycat recipe as it tasted like milk with mint flavoring.

      1. It’s not that it didn’t taste minty. It’s that it tasted nothing like MCD shamrock shake. Just a minty milk drink. Comparable to the difference between chocolate milk and a chocolate shake. Thus not even close to a copycat recipe.

  3. This is just perfect for an afternoon treat! My son is such a fan of any mint dessert, so I’ll have to make this for him soon! Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. Looks awesome! I love how into mint you always get– I forget all about doing mint every year!! Love this and love almond breeze- definitely trying!

  5. Thank you for sharing. You don’t want that fast-food restaurant shake anyway. I tried a sip of my husband’s and all I could taste was all artificial flavoring, didn’t taste anywhere close to a milkshake. So your not missing anything.

  6. We’re all half Irish, so St. Patrick’s Day is always a big deal for us. Now I have a milkshake recipe to try for the day! Looks yummy!

  7. I really, really like the minimal use of ingredients. It’s perfect because I try to eat vegan as much as possible and I hate dairy! I would skip out the green colouring just because. πŸ™‚
