Easy Halloween Dessert Board

I love to make these easy frosting boards because they can be made into any shape and decorated for any holiday and event. This one is made into the cutest pumpkin; you need to simply use frosting, food coloring, and icing to present this awesome recipe!

One of the best parts of frosting boards is the dippers. What good is the frosting if you don’t have anything to dip into it? For this recipe I used these super cute and iconic cookies, but you can add so much more as well. Different cookies, crackers, fruit, and really anything else would taste great! If you need a recipe and you need it quick–this ones for you!

Ingredients Needed

  • Vanilla Frosting: Use store-bought, or make my vanilla buttercream recipe.
  • Orange Gel Food Coloring: You can also use a combination of red and yellow food coloring to make orange.
  • Black and Green Decorator Icing
  • Cookies, etc, for dipping: So many things would taste so good dipped in this frosting pumpkin

How to make Halloween Buttercream Board

  • Stir a few drops of food coloring into your can of icing and stir.
  • Cover your serving plate or board with parchment or wax paper.
  • Spread a circle of frosting all over your board.
  • Use the black decorator icing to pipe eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Use the green decorator icing to pipe the stem.
  • Serve with assorted dippers (cookies, fruit, pretzels, etc).

Variations

  • Like I said, you can use a store-bought frosting or you can make my amazing vanilla frosting! You could also choose a different type of frosting like a cream cheese frosting.
  • I think it’s fun to style the dippers after the holiday. That’s why I used the halloween cookies! You can use black, green, and purple colored candy. As well as, candy corn!

Expert Tips

  • Feeling creative? Make a ghost or a bat as well as a pumpkin.
  • When mixing the food coloring, make sure you mix it evenly so the color is distributed well!
  • If you don’t want to use icing for the decorating–get more frosting and dye it whatever color you’d like!

FAQs

Can I make a frosting board ahead of time?

I don’t recommend making it too far in advance because the frosting will harden. One hour in advance is the most I would do.
