Pomegranate Margaritas are sweet, tart, and perfect for a party (or a Friday night). The combination of the lime, orange, and pomegranate juice makes a delicious cocktail!

Two margarita glasses filled with bright pink cocktail, each garnished with a slice of lime on the rim. There are halved limes on the white surface beside the glasses. The background is minimal and light.

I got the idea to make these margaritas after watching The Season I Turned Pretty. Belly gets smashed on these fruity drinks in season one and I couldn’t stop thinking about them ever since. I took one for the team and tested different strengths to make sure the ratio of lime to tequila to juice was perfect – and the result is an easy Pomegranate Margarita recipe that is absolutely delicious.

I know that usually margaritas are served on the rocks, but I wanted to emulate the drink in the show, which was served in margarita glasses. You can also serve this on the rocks in a rocks glass for a more traditional cocktail. These are perfect for parties all year long and especially during the holiday season when pomegranates are in season (the green and red color makes this a very festive drink!)

Four bottles (simple syrup, pomegranate juice, Cointreau, tequila) stand side by side on a white surface with three lime halves in front of them, set against a light background.

How to make Pomegranate Margaritas with Simple Ingredients

  1. Traditionally, margaritas are served with salt or sugar on the rim of the glasses. You can use either one you prefer. I recommend coarse salt over table salt.
  2. Use fresh lime juice for best results (it tastes better) – but bottled will do if you on’t want to squeeze all those limes.
  3. Orange liqueur is also known as Triple Sec (or Cointreau). You can also sub grand marnier.
  4. What’s the best tequila for margaritas? The kind you like best! I recommend using a silver tequila or tequila blanco.
  5. Pomegranate juice comes in bottles in the produce aisle of most grocery stores. It’s unsweetened so it’s important to add simple syrup to taste.
  6. Garnish with a lime wheel or lime wedge (or even rosemary springs).
  7. Because I used a margarita glass, I used a cocktail shaker. If you’re pouring over ice, you can just stir.
  8. You can make margarita in a large pitcher – the recipe includes how to make this for one person and how to make these for a crowd. It’s very simple to scale up cocktails by just multiplying by the number of servings.

FAQs

What tequila is the best for margaritas?

Use a tequila blanco for the best flavor, but you can also use reposado tequila or even mezcal.

How do you rim a glass with salt?

Run a wedge of lime around the edge of your glass. Add coarse sea salt to a small plate and invert the wet rim onto the salt.

How do you rim a glass with sugar?

You can either use the lime trick, or place honey or agave syrup on a plate and dip the rim there first before dipping the edge of the glass in sugar.

What can I use instead of simple syrup?

Agave is a great substitution when making margaritas. You can also just add it to taste.
