If you are craving ooey, gooey chocolate brownies, this is one of the best crock pot desserts ever: a Slow Cooker Brownie Pudding – like crockpot lava cake and it’s SO good.

Recipes are where my instant gratification gets me the worst. I see a recipe or think of an idea and I need to make it ASAP. Like, I’ll drop everything on my schedule and head to the kitchen. And while that’s not great for my to-do list, it is great for you. This Slow Cooker Brownie Pudding is one of my impulse recipes that I had to make ASAP. And it’s a good thing I did too – it’s one of the best crockpot desserts you’ll ever eat!!
Making dessert in the crockpot is so simple and fast and it’s nice because you don’t have to babysit it like something in the oven (and if your oven is full, you can still make this!) It’s easy, has just a few ingredients, and is super rich and chocolatey.
Chocolate lava cake in a slow cooker is brownies and pudding and so good – this is the best crockpot dessert I’ve made (and I’ve made several: caramel cake, coffee cake, and even apple dump cake). This Crockpot Brownie Pudding is gooey, chocolatey, rich, and so freaking fantastic YOU need to make it right this minute. (Honestly, it’s even better than the BEST brownie recipe in the world.)

How to make Crockpot Lava Cake
- Use any flavor brownie mix (the regular 9×13-inch pan size). I used milk chocolate from Duncan Hines but any brand or flavor works.
- You’ll need the ingredients on the box to make the brownies (oil, eggs, water).
- Use INSTANT chocolate pudding – the smaller box – any flavor really. Chocolate, chocolate fudge, anything. Make sure it’s instant.
- You’ll just need the milk called for to make the pudding.
- Make sure to use a 6-8 quart slow cooker and cover it with a paper towel before placing the lid to catch condensation.
- Watch this after about an hour and a half – you don’t want it to burn.
- Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

Slow Cooker Brownie Pudding Recipe
Recipe Video
Ingredients
- 1 (approx 15 ounce) box Brownie Mix see note
- 2 large eggs (or use water, and oil called for on the brownie mix box)
- ½ cup (118ml) vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons (45ml) water
- 1 3.4 ounce box instant chocolate or chocolate fudge pudding mix
- 2 cups (474ml) milk regular or nonfat
- Ice cream or whipped cream for serving optional
Instructions
- Spray a 6-7 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
- Prepare brownie mix with eggs, oil, and water (or as directed on the back of the box). Pour into prepared slow cooker.
- Whisk pudding mix and milk in a medium sized bowl until smooth. Pour carefully over the brownie mix in the crockpot.
- Cover the crock pot with a paper towel and place the lid on top (to catch the condensation). Cook on high power 2-3 hours. It will probably take at least 2 1/2 hours, but start checking it after 2. Some of the pudding stays on the top and stays wet looking, so you cannot trust the toothpick test and it will stay somewhat jiggly until it’s done. Watch the edges – when they look somewhat dry and done, then the pudding is ready. Baking time will be different for every slow cooker, but after 3 hours on high it should be done. You don’t want to overcook it or the brownie (which is on the bottom) will be dry.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream. Store in an airtight container in the regfrigerator for up to 3 days.

Do you think I could use cook and serve pudding?? I’m afraid to try. That is what I normally have on hand — anyone try yet?
Recipe is always a favorite!! Is great for teenage birthday parties!!
I did use cook and serve as that’s all I had on hand. I mixed the pudding with milk and heated on stove to gently warm. Immediately poured it over the brownie batter in my crock pot before it could cook and set. And then followed this recipe from there. Only advice is if you do this slightly decrease the crock pot cooking time 2 hrs max should do it.
I followed the instructions exactly, and it worked. It cooked fully in 3 hours, again… just as she writes in the comments. That was helpful. However, the chocolate flavor was light. If you are looking for an ultra sweet and strong chocolate flavor, this isn’t it. This may not be a bad thing for some people. I was just surprised the flavor really mellowed out, so I thought others might want to know, too. I tasted the vanilla ice cream more.
I like how you include both measurements, nothing worse tthan a good recipe I can’t understand
We served it with warm caramel topping. Very good and kids asked me to make it again soon.
Delicious!!! Made it for my family who had just devoured a rich heavy meal and swore they had no room for dessert. Long story short, the crockpot was completely empty within minutes! Served with vanilla bean ice cream. Thanks for this simple recipe
