If you’ve ever stood in a long line at the Enchanted Tiki Room just for a taste of that creamy, pineapple goodness, this recipe is for you. I’m sharing the official Disney Dole Whip recipe that you can make in your own blender! Whether you want the classic soft serve, a refreshing Dole float, or an adults-only boozy cocktail version, I’ve got you covered. It’s the easiest way to bring a little bit of theme park magic into your kitchen.

small bowl with swirled dole whip.

Want to know something funny? I never had a Dole Whip until about 2 years ago! I’d heard about them sure, and I’d always longed to try one, but the lines were always so long. Now that Disney theme parks offer mobile ordering, it’s much easier to get one when you’re there.

The beauty of the Disney-released recipe is its simplicity: you only need three basic ingredients and a high-powered blender. While the version in the parks is famously dairy-free (using a specific dry mix), the official home version uses a scoop of vanilla ice cream to get that signature creamy texture. It takes less than five minutes to whip up, making it the perfect quick treat for a hot summer day or a Disney-themed movie night.

  1. The classic pineapple Dole Whip recipe
  2. Dole Whip Floats – my favorite way to order!
  3. Boozy Dole Whip with Rum – a classic tropical cocktail that’s better than a piña colada!

To make a Disney Dole Whip at home, blend 2 cups of frozen pineapple, 1/2 cup pineapple juice, and 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream until smooth. For a Dole Float, serve the mixture over chilled pineapple juice. For a Dole Whip Cocktail, blend in 2 ounces of rum. To achieve the signature swirl, pipe the mixture through a star-tipped pastry bag.

3 Ingredient Pineapple Whips

  • Vanilla Ice Cream is the creamy frozen part of this recipe. You can use nondairy ice cream if you prefer, or frozen yogurt.
  • Using Frozen Pineapple Chunks is what keeps the Dole Whip frozen like soft serve ice cream. I usually just buy frozen pineapple, but you can also drain a can of chunks and freeze it yourself.
  • Pineapple Juice is the liquid that helps blend the soft serve. I prefer buying the small cans so I can make this whip whenever I want!
  • What is the difference between park Dole Whip and the home recipe? In Disney Parks, Dole Whip is made using a vegan, non-dairy dry mix and a commercial soft-serve machine. The official at-home recipe released by Disney uses frozen pineapple, pineapple juice, and vanilla ice cream to replicate that creamy consistency without the need for professional equipment.

My favorite way to order this at Disneyland is to get a float. I just like the combination of juice and ice cream (like a root beer float).

To make a Dole Whip Float at home, you just add your soft serve to a tall glass and pour the rest of your pineapple juice over it, like you’re making a float. I also love topping it with a cherry!

Boozy Dole Whip

Making these at home means that you can add booze! I’ve heard that in Disney World and on Disney cruises you can get a dole whip with rum, so now we’re making that at home!

To add booze, just add a shot of rum when you’re blending your cocktail, like when you make a Pina Colada. Done!

Dorothy’s Expert Dole Whip Tips

  • Powerful Blender Needed: the basic dole whip recipe doesn’t have a lot of liquid, so be sure to use a powerful blender. Alternately, use a food processor.
  • Variations: use any flavor ice cream or even sorbet or any frozen fruit. You can make a raspberry dole whip by using frozen raspberries, etc.

3 Ways to Serve a Dole Whip

  1. The classic soft serve Dole Whip has an iconic swirl. To serve with the swirl, use a piping bag and an open star tip (Wilton 1M) to pipe into your glass or bowl.
  2. How do you make a Dole Whip Float? To make a classic Dole Whip Float, fill a glass about halfway with chilled pineapple juice. Carefully add your prepared Dole Whip soft serve on top. The soft serve will float on the juice, allowing you to enjoy the creamy pineapple treats and the refreshing juice at the same time.
  3. How to make a Boozy Dole Whip Cocktail? To turn a Dole Whip into an adult cocktail, simply add 1.5 to 2 ounces of white or spiced rum to the blender before mixing. For a floater style (like a mai tai), prepare the soft serve as usual and pour a shot of dark rum directly over the top of the swirl.

How to make a Dole Whip

  1. The regular Dole Whip is soft serve pineapple ice cream, and for that you need a blender (or you can use a food processor).
  2. Just add all your ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth.
  3. You can just scoop it into a glass, but if you want the tell-tale soft serve Dole Whip “look” then you need a piping bag and a star (1M) tip to get that swirl.

FAQ

Do I need an ice cream maker to make a dole whip?

No you don’t – just a blender or food processor.

How to serve a dole whip

Serve in a cup like soft serve, or add juice to make a float.

Are dole whips vegan?

The dole whips you get at Disney are vegan and gluten free. This recipe as written isn’t, but you can make it vegan. Ditch the ice cream and chill a can of coconut milk overnight. Discard the coconut water and just use the thick coconut mixture in the can. Reduce the amount of juice (start with no juice and add more as needed for consistency).

How to store leftover Dole Whip

This makes about 2 servings, but if you want to store it, put it in the freezer in an airtight container.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Dole Whip is best served immediately. If you freeze it for later, it will harden into a solid block. If this happens, let it sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes and then re-blend it.

Do I need a special blender?

A high-powered blender (like a Vitamix or Ninja) works best to break down the frozen pineapple quickly, but any standard blender will work if you pulse it carefully.

What is the best rum for a Dole Whip cocktail?

Coconut rum adds extra tropical flavor, while dark rum provides a rich, caramel-like finish.
