EASY Pineapple Dump Cake Recipe

Watching RHO Atlanta has me thinking about the south and southern food…and that brings me to our newest DUMP CAKE recipe for today: Pineapple Upside Down Dump Cake!

When I made my Cherry Berry Dump Cake, I got so many comments about all the different flavors people make. Peach, cherry, lemon, chocolate…I want to try every single one. The one that was brought up most was pineapple with cherry pie filling. I thought to myself, of course that’s popular: it’s a Pineapple Upside Down Cake!

So…I decided to give that recipe a home right here on the blog: a pineapple upside down DUMP cake…where you just dump it all in. Easy as pie…or cake, that is.

INGREDIENTS IN PINEAPPLE DUMP CAKE

4 Ingredient Pineapple Cake

  • Crushed pineapple: Just a can of it
  • Cherry pie filling: Use a can or my homemade cherry pie filling
  • Cake Mix: Yellow or white cake mix, any brand
  • Butter: Another thing a lot of people commented was that they melted the butter instead of cubing it. I tried that with this cake and it worked just fine, but you can use either method.

How to make Pineapple Dump Cake

  1. Get two cans of something: in this case cherry pie filling and canned pineapple. Dump them in a 9×13-inch pan or baking dish.
  2. Sprinkle the cake mix powder all over the top evenly.
  3. Top with melted butter.
  4. Bake at 350°F until a nice crust forms on top.
  5. Eat ’til you’re sick. (Or wait, is that just me?)

Expert tips

  • Use any combination pie filling and fruit.
  • I used melted butter for this but I also recommend freezing your butter and then grating it – it’s easier to sprinkle it all over the top.
  • Dump cake is done when the top is no longer glossy and the fruit is bubbling.

FAQs

Do I have to use melted butter?

You can slice the butter and place the slices evenly over the top, or you can grate the butter and sprinkle it evenly over the cake mix if you don’t want to use melted butter.

How to store pineapple dump cake?

Store this in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Can you freeze dump cake?

You can freeze it but I don’t recommend it. It’s best fresh.

Pineapple Upside Down Dump Cake – This EASY pineapple upside down cake recipe has only 4 ingredients!! Simply dump the recipes into the pan and bake. The easiest cake recipe EVER and it feeds a crowd!
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes
Yield 12 servings
Serving Size 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 1 20 ounce can crushed pineapple in juice
  • 1 21 ounce can cherry pie filling
  • 1 15.25 ounce box yellow or white cake mix
  • 12 tablespoons (170g) unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 2.8L casserole dish or 9×13” pan with cooking spray.
  • Pour the crushed pineapple (with the juice) and cherry pie filling in the bottom of the dish. Open the cake mix and sprinkle the power evenly over the top.
  • Pour the melted butter evenly over the top of the cake mix. Make sure to make it even so that it all cooks into the cake mix.
  • Bake for 35-45 minutes until the fruit starts to bubble up around the edges and the edges start to turn golden. I baked mine in a casserole dish that was deeper than a 9×13” pan so it took 40 minutes. Different pans will have different baking times, so start checking after 30 minutes.
  • Serve with ice cream or whipped cream. Store covered in refrigerator.

  1. Easy to make and do. I put brown sugar in the bottom to make it a true pineapple upside down dump cake. Family truly enjoyed the cake. Thanks. I did right after church for dinner. Quick easy and delicious

  2. Call me crazy…(I do all the time). . . I’m not a huge fan of cherries! Ok, I like fresh cherries. But that’s pretty much it. Would it work with an extra can of pineapple maybe? I do love pineapple. 😍 I’m sure this is delicious though as is!!

    1. Yes you can – I’ve done that. I like to place a paper towel between the insert and the lid to catch condensation. It’ll probably take about 2 hours on low, check after an hour.

  3. Hi, I like best, my Upside Down, Pineapple Blueberry Cake w/ Crushed Walnuts, Dump Cake.
Like the other recipes, dump your washed, fresh blueberries, followed by your crushed pineapple w/ juice. Then dump your white cake mix on top w/ melted butter over the top.
Then, take some walnuts, and finely chop, then sprinkle over the top.
Bake at 350 until golden, and fruit juices are bubbling along sides. Approx. 45 min.
Absolutely to die for, but then, I love blueberries. You should try my Blueberry Cheesecake. Everyone says I could teach The Cheesecake Factory how to make Cheesecake.

  4. Super easy. I made some adaptations and they were great. I used a 9×9 pan. Melted a couple of tablespoons of butter in the bottom and sprinkled brown sugar on the butter. I put maraschino cherries scattered over the bottom. I put 1 can or crushed pineapple in. I used 1/2 of a yellow cake mix over the top and used 6 tablespoons of melted butter over the top. Took about 40 minutes. FABULOUS!!!

  5. Oh my goodness, all your dump cakes look yummy!! I love making dump cakes – so easy, and I made a crushed pineapple dump cake recently similar to yours that you made with cherry pie filling. However, I made mine with sweetened condensed milk. Talking about sweet – it was gooey sweet and went fast!!

  6. With left over pineapple tonight I knew just what I wanted, but my own ancient recipe is misplaced, so I googled, and it brought me here. I knew I could trust yours to be every bit as good as my old one, and it is! It’s not rocket science but I like to refer to a recipe anyway.
