What is Fudge Pie?

A fudge pie is a chocolate pie made with eggs and baked. It has a gooey chocolate center and a crusty chocolate top like a brownie.

This gooey chocolate fudge pie tastes like a melted brownie!

Now, I have a brownie pie on this site (actually, I have two). But this one tastes like the combination between brownie and fudge and chocolate chess pie. It’s a super simple recipe with just a few ingredients and it’s SO rich and delicious that all chocoholics are going to love it.

There are so many ways to make a chocolate fudge pie (I’ve seen recipes with cocoa, with sweetened condensed milk, crustless fudge pies and so many more), but this one is simple, with just a few main ingredients.

Ingredients Needed

  • Baking Chocolate: Use unsweetened baking chocolate
  • Butter: I prefer using unsalted butter
  • Eggs: These give the rich brownie like pie filling
  • Flour: Just a bit of all purpose flour helps the pie hold together.
  • Pie Shell: Use my homemade pie crust recipe or use a frozen or refrigerated crust.

How to make Chocolate Fudge Pie

  • Melt chocolate and butter in a large bowl.
  • Stir in granulated sugar. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until smooth.
  • Stir in flour.
  • Pour batter into your pie crust.
  • Bake in a preheated oven until set.

Expert Tips

  • Use a regular 9-inch pie plate, not deep dish.
  • The minutes listed are a range because all ovens cook differently.
  • You know your fudge pie is done baking when the top is no longer glossy and starts to crack around the edges (it’ll look like brownies on top).
  • We love serving this pie with ice cream and hot fudge or chocolate sauce.
  • How to store fudge pie: the pie can sit on the counter for up to 3 days. Refrigerated it’ll last closer to 5 days. You can also freeze the pie for up to 3 months.

  1. Absolutely delicious! I made it last night for a small dinner party & it was a hit! Everyone loved it…it was so good & EASY that I just made another one tonight for my husband & I! 😉
*replying to folks asking if 2 oz of the chocolate is enough… YES! It’s amazing. Also, I used a store bought crust, let it thaw & used it “uncooked”, filled with the mixture & baked it … pure perfection!

    1. Monica, thank you for your comments. I was just wondering about the pie crust. If I should cook or use uncooked. I will also be using a store bought crust and now I know what to do.

      1. I have used uncooked pie crusts every time I’ve made this delicious treat & it’s always fabulous!

  2. I want to make this so bad! I’m a total newb (newbie)! Should I bake the pie crust (store bought) and let it cool or do I just leave it unbaked and put the filling in and then bake??

  3. Only 2 oz of chocolate that’s it? That sounds like too small of an amount to give it a chocolate flavor? It tastes chocolatey?

  4. Wow, I didn’t realize that you were speaking. That’s great. Congrats and have a fun weekend. Happy blogiversary, happy birthday, and happy year!

    Oh, and great recipe too.

    1. I always make dessert when we have guests over for dinner and have tried a number of chocolate torte/cake recipies. I am never overly pleased with the result and decided to give this a try…. WOW! So impressive given the ease of making it, and the simplicity of the ingredients. The taste and texture is so velvety and wonderful. Other half said ‘your best dessert yet’ this will definitely go on the favourite recipies pile. Can’t wait to try it again!

  5. Provo is my home town!!!!   You need to try Waffle Love, cafe Rio (get the sweet pork) and Kneades  (turkey ranch on froccia) just to name a few.   That area really has some amazing places to eat.  You also need to make a trip up to Sundance.  Have fun!

That pie looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it

  6. As you said no birthday or birthday celebration can really top your 40th last year. Definitely without a doubt a bday and a party and a weekend to remember!! Happy birthday, happy blogiversary, best of luck at the conference, and here’s to a great year for you!!
