Skip the birthday cake and make a Birthday Board with your favorite cookies and sweet treats – a birthday charcuterie board is superior! Plus it’s festive because of all the sprinkles!! It’s the perfect way to say happy birthday.

Dessert boards are all the rage – and they’re so much fun to create! Think of it like the sweet version of a charcuterie board – or the smaller version of a dessert table. People love all the different things you put on boards like this and there are so many ways to assemble them.
A Birthday Board like this is easy to make partially from scratch or entirely from the store – and it’s fun and festive and the colors just POP. While many Birthday Dessert Boards include a birthday cake, I skipped that for this and went full cookie – because cookies are just the best (and easier to serve).
How to make a Birthday Board
First you need to decide what cookies you want to include – since we’re making this festive, think about things that have sprinkles and/or cake batter flavor. Here are some ideas:
- Birthday Cookies are chocolate chip cookies with rainbow sprinkles.
- Sprinkle Cookies can be made with any colors!
- Cake Batter Rice Krispie Treats are super simple to make and taste like cake!
- You could also add sugar cookies, cake batter cookies, or even funfetti blondies
- You could also add some mini cupcakes too!
Once you have the main ingredients out of the way, it’s time to add your garnishes, like candies or nuts or anything brightly colored and festive. Here are some ideas:
- Rock Candy
- Suckers
- SweetTarts, Gummy Bears, Sour Strips, Jelly Beans
- Air Heads or Jolly Ranchers or Laffy Taffy
- M&Ms or other colorful candy
- Store bought cookies like Circus Animal Cookies or mini pop tarts or M&M cookies.

Assembling a Birthday Cookie Board
- This is often where I get stuck – where to start. It’s best to start with anything you want in bowls (like M&Ms) and place that in the center.
- Then move onto your big items (cookies, Rice Krispie treats, and cupcakes, etc)
- In the remaining holes, add candies or other items to fill in the empty spots.
Dorothy’s Expert Tips
- Be sure to get items that complement each other – be aware of flavors. (Don’t get peanut butter cups and put them next to mints, etc).
- Browse your grocery store candy aisle and cookie section for the best options – and the bakery section often has sprinkle desserts galore.
- Stores like Five Below and the Dollar Store often have generous candy sections where you can buy a small amount that’ll just fit on your board.
