Raise your hand if you cannot eat an entire banana. Please, I can’t be the only one who eats half a banana and can’t swallow the rest. Right? Please?

I also can’t be the only one who has that same problem with melon. And who shudders at the thought of biting into a grape (will it be sweet? sour? mushy?)

I’m not alone in my weird food habits, right?

Like, I totally understand if no one else is a bean burrito vampire like me…but bananas? There has to be someone that can’t eat a whole banana like me.

Luckily my husband is my other half. As in, he eats the other half. Or, I put them in a breakfast smoothie. I’d much rather drink my fruits and veggies.

{And yes, I know that’s not as good for you. I have texture issues people, should I drink the fruit or not eat it at all?}

Luckily I have no problem eating bananas if they’re baked in something. Like cheesecake.

I’m kind of on a cheesecake kick right now. In the last few weeks I’ve posted Apple Cheesecake Bars and Creme Brulee Cheesecake Bars. You don’t mind, right?

I know these are bars and not a regular round cheesecake. Here’s the thing: I don’t like making a full cheesecake. Who’s gonna eat it? Plus, it’s hard to give away slices of cheesecake. For some reason it seems okay to give away a square of something than a slice. Or is that just me?

So I make bars. I like bars.

Especially these banana cheesecake bars!

I don’t know what got me thinking about banana cheesecake. Even thought I have an aversion to actual bananas, I love desserts that contain banana. This cake is one of my favorites. And I also have two versions of cupcakes. Somehow, banana cheesecake popped into my head.

These cheesecake bars start with a Golden Oreo Crust. First of all, Golden Oreos are the Best. Oreos. Ever. I like them more than regular Oreos, by a long shot. They make an amazing crust to start with, and the spiciness of the cookie is the perfect complement to the banana. {FYI, Nilla Wafers would also make an amazing crust!}

The cheesecake is made similarly to the Creme Brulee Cheesecake Bars; that is they are made with greek yogurt. I mixed cream cheese and greek yogurt together to form the base. A banana is added to that, along with a box of banana pudding to really amp up the banana flavor. {I’ve never made it without the pudding, but if you can’t find it, I’m pretty confident you could skip it.}

Once it’s baked it’s super rich and creamy. These are probably the creamiest cheesecake bars I’ve ever made! And the banana flavor…I’m really in love with it.

Serving with caramel sauce is not required but I certainly recommend it.  Golden Oreos + Banana + Caramel = Magic. It’s GOOD.

Mel finishes my half-eaten bananas. But he won’t eat banana desserts, so I got all these bars.

We complement each other nicely that way. And, I know I’m not the only weird one…

Banana Cheesecake Bars with Golden Oreo Crust

  • 25 Golden Oreos
  • 6 tablespoons butter — melted
  • 8 ounces cream cheese — I use low-fat, room temperature
  • 1 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt — or you can use vanilla, room temperature
  • 2 medium bananas — or 1 large, peeled (it's best if it's a "tired" or brown spotted banana, but not too spotty!)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1-3.4 ounce size box instant banana pudding
  • Caramel ice cream topping — for serving

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a 9x9” pan with foil and spray with cooking spray.
  2. Crush Golden Oreos in a food processor until they are a fine crumb. Mix with melted butter and press into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Beat cream cheese, banana, and yogurt with a stand mixer until smooth. Beat in sugar, vanilla, eggs, and flour. Stir in pudding.
  4. Pour cheesecake mixture over prepared crust. Bake for 33-35 minutes, until the edges turn golden. It will still jiggle a little in the center, but it will set as it cools. Cool to room temperature on the counter, and then chill until set, overnight (or at least 4 hours). Slice into bars and serve with caramel sauce and/or whipped cream.

  1. Oh we are opposites! I am a melon freak – I love pretty much every fruit and could eat it all day!
I’ve never had banana cheesecake but it sounds wonderful! Love the golden Oreo crust too!

  2. Golden Oreos are just MADE for bananas (or white chocolate) IMO! I was surprised to see the post title b/c I know you are not a banana girl, but I can totally see this cheesecake being amazing! Super creamy and with the crust of Oreos, YUM!

  3. Loving this cheesecake! I too can only eat half a banana, if that! But then again I have no problems with melon or grapes 🙂 Or cheesecake….

  4. I’m not seeing a banana in the ingredients or instructions. Am I missing it? I was looking to see how much was used so that I could convince myself these bars were healthy enough for breakfast 🙂

  5. Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one! I LOVE bananas but can never finish the whole thing! To funny, but glad I am not alone! LOVE this cheesecake. Those golden oreos sound incredible in this!

  6. How have I never had a golden oreo yet?! That needs to change when I make these glorious bars!

  7. This looks wonderful! I have no problems eating bananas but I don’t do melons of any kind! But I can totally do cheesecake!!

  8. I never eat a banana without a jar of peanut butter nearby…ever. Otherwise I can’t do it. But these I could eat….without issue.

  9. Banana Cheese cake looks absolutely delicious and tempting

  10. Thank GOODNESS I am not the only one who can’t eat an entire banana. I try so hard, because I know they’re good for me, but I just can’t do it. But banana baked goodies…well, I can eat those all day long. These look fabulous, Dorothy.

  11. OE wow I love the crust with oreo

  12. That filling looks amazing! And a crust made out of oreos?? Be still, my heart.

  13. I do love bananas baked into things and I really like banana cream pie, but I’ve never tried it in a cheesecake. I’m pretty sure it would be love at first bite. Especially with a Golden Oreo crust! And love how you drizzled it in caramel!

  14. I have been digging banana desserts this pregnancy, but NOT bananas. I didn’t mind them before, but now the texture gets me. This is right up my alley for sure!

  15. Ugh, I hate eating whole bananas! A little bite goes a long way with me, BUT I can eat bananas in anything! Actually thats the only way I can possibly eat a whole banana! I can eat a lot of these bars Dorothy with no problem! Yummy!

  16. I like to eat bananas with peanut butter, but this cheesecake sounds like my new favorite way to eat bananas! Looks delicious!

  17. I’m actually not a huge fan of banana unless it’s baked in bread or something, so I totally understand where you are coming from! Pretty sure I could handle eating them in these cheesecake bars, too!

  18. I’m glad you have someone to eat the rest of your poor neglected banana! I hear ya on the grapes…I pick through them and if they feel or look at all squishy I just can’t do it! These bars look amazing like always!

  19. I love cheesecake and rarely make it because I don’t WANT to eat the whole thing! I agree, Dorothy, squares are somehow more manageable. 🙂 With the added banana and pudding mix, I can imagine the creamy goodness of these bars! It is always good to have another recipe for what to do with an over abundance of ripe bananas (banana bread is wonderful but variety is key).
As a goofy aside….Our golden loved bananas. My husband eats a banana with his breakfast every morning and our golden would sit by him at the kitchen counter waiting for his daily banana ends. 🙂 Just in case your husband isn’t around one day to eat your other banana half….try the dog. 🙂 (Our sheltie won’t go near them.)

    • I’ve tried to get our golden to eat the rest of my banana but she won’t go for it! Apples though (and pretty much anything else from dried pasta to kleenex to dirt and other unmentionables) are a hit!

  20. You’ve just created my husband’s ideal dessert… banana and oreo.

And no, I cannot CANNOT eat an entire banana. I think the texture or something gets to me, but I can’t do it. You are not the only one!

  21. We like bananas at our place! These look amazing! Pinned!

  22. How could you serve it without caramel sauce?! That would be so wrong!!! I want this now!!

  23. I’m totally with ya about the whole banana thing, one bite and I’m done. Plus, I hate burping a banana all day. Now, put that banana in a bread form….OR THIS CHEESECAKE BAR I’ll dive in head first with my big mouth wide open!!!

  24. How well does this “Keep”–having bananas in it?

  25. So I actually love whole fruits….but I’m crazy like that 🙂 And I’m crazy about Oreos & cheesecake….especially golden Oreos and banana cheesecake!! These look incredible, Dorothy!!

  26. I JUST learned something new yesterday: a full banana counts as two servings of fruit! So you don’t have to feel guilty or weird about eating just half a banana — you still get a full serving of fruit that way! And there’s nothing wrong with drinking your fruit in smoothies. You still get all of the nutrients, which wouldn’t be the case with juicing. See, you’re already ahead of the curve! 🙂 But I’d still gladly eat half the pan of cheesecake bars to get a full “two servings” of fruit!

  27. OMG! Love this recipe, I only changed one thing I made graham cracker crust instead, and it was a big hit with my husband, and it paired well with Cush coffee- Kenya a a+, It was wonderful!

  28. I actually love bananas and especially banana dessert and even more especially banana cheesecake. These bars are amazing!! Pinned 🙂

  29. We must have a talk … I eat a banana (the whole thing) almost every morning. If my boys would tell me that they were hungry (between meals), my answer would be ‘eat a banana’! They still give me grief about that, LOL. Grapes – eat 2 at a time, then if one is sour, the other will balance it out! Do I sound like a mom on her soap box? All in all, I would rather have my banana in cheesecake 🙂

  30. Could I use sour cream instead of yogurt???

  31. Banana cheesecake bars are genius!!! I have never even had banana cheesecake before. Must try!

  32. Wow…look delicious. Thanks for the recipe.

  34. hi!!!!! im from the philippines and im really enjoying reading the recipes in your blog..
im trying to create new flavors for my soon to open biz. lol
i just want to know if i can use a microwave for this recipe..
i dont have a pro oven for this.. hope to hear from you

  35. HELP – If I don’t like graham cracker crust and in Canada we don’t have Golden oreos – what would you suggest? Can I use any vanilla cookie for a base?

    • Yes! Vanilla wafers (Nilla wafers here in the States) or any cookie like that (or any sandwich cookie – they may sell a Golden Oreo like cookie?) would work! You may need a touch less or a touch more butter depending on the cookie, but if the crumbs press together you’re good. 🙂

  37. This looks so good! I might try different cookie crusts too to change up the flavor a little (I LOVE chocolate!).
I also can’t eat a whole banana. I can’t eat a banana if it’s too ripe either (for me, too ripe is when it’s no longer green – it has to be just barely on the green side for firmness. All yellow is too ripe!).
