I absolutely love chili and cheese and tater tots…so this Chili Tater Tot Casserole is the perfect dinner or potluck dish. Whenever I’m craving comfort food, those three things are my go-to!

Now that the weather is cooler, all I want to do is enjoy comfort foods like chili and cheese. Making casseroles with chili is one of my favorite ways to make an EASY dinner recipe, like when I make my mom’s Bean Stuff Casserole or my Chili Bubble Bake.

Casseroles are so good this time of year too. Potlucks abound, from school events to family gatherings, and sometimes you want an easy casserole that comes together in minutes. Tater tot casserole is definitely that easy!

There are so many ways to make Tater Tot Casserole. I’ve seen them made with cream of mushroom soup, with taco seasoning, even pasta sauce. When I made this casserole I went to my pantry and found a can of chili that needed to be used, so it became Chili Tater Tot Casserole. Chili is one of my husband’s favorite things, and so are tater tots, so I knew this meal would be something he’d LOVE (and he did!)

I could eat this kind of casserole every day and not get sick of it, but my body wouldn’t love it because foods like this give me heartburn. Have you ever dealt with heartburn? I’ve had it since I was a kid, and I know that if I avoid spicy foods or lots of butter (I swear, just looking at sugar cookies gives it to me) or foods with acidity (like grapefruit and tomatoes) it won’t bother me but sometimes I just want to eat a casserole for dinner or a cookie for dessert or have a grapefruit cocktail and not worry about heartburn. It’s hard to avoid all foods that give me heartburn, so I have to treat it instead of just avoiding it.

There is no way I’m going through life without enjoying Tater Tot Casserole. What kind of life would that be?! To treat my frequent heartburn, I use Equate Omeprazole Orally Dissolving Tablets (aka Omeprazole ODT).

Omeprazole Orally Disintegrating Tablets can be found at Walmart. Omeprazole ODT is designed to treat the symptoms of frequent heartburn (which means you get it 2 or more days a week). Some of the benefits of Omeprazole ODT are:

  • Taken daily, it treats frequent heartburn. (Take one dose every 24 hours for 14 days, but be sure to talk to a doctor first!)
  • Some get relief in the first 24 hours, but most take 1-4 days for full effect.
  • It’s an easy-to-take disintegrating tablet that dissolves on your tongue. I love this because I don’t always have water around when I remember to take my medicine.
  • Don’t chew Omeprazole ODT or dissolve in liquid, let it dissolve on your tongue.
  • It comes in strawberry flavor, provides 24-hour heartburn relief, and you can take it on the go – no water needed.

Because it has long-lasting protection, Omeprazole ODT is an ideal choice for frequent heartburn sufferers like me. When I’m taking it, I don’t have to worry about what I eat or drink causing me pain, so I can enjoy food at a party or potluck and not worry, or make tacos or chili for dinner and not dread the aftermath.

While you’re out shopping for Omeprazole ODT at Walmart, be sure to pick up all the ingredients you need for this Chili Tator Tot Casserole. You just need a few easy ingredients! Have you ever had or made a tater tot casserole before?

A friend of mine told me about this casserole recipe when Jordan was young, but I never made it. Then one day I had some tater tots and chili to use up so I decided, why not?

This chili tater tot casserole has become one of our favorite recipes and we’ll be making it again and again!

You only need a few things to make a tater tot casserole, which makes it the best weeknight meal.

How do you make the best tater tot casserole?

  • First, you brown your ground beef with onion and garlic. If you don’t have onion and garlic you can use powder, but I love fresh.
  • Place the browned beef in a casserole dish and top with chili, then cheese, then tater tots. Bake and eat, easy peasy.
  • Can you use turkey instead of ground beef? Yes you can!
  • Can you use any kind of chili? Yes you can – use your favorite brand.

This tater tot casserole is a cross between Mexican and Taco – kind of like a Tex-Mex casserole!

Adding the extra beef to the chili make this a much heartier meal and allows it to feed more people, making it perfect for a large family or a potluck. Served with a simple side salad, it’s the perfect quick easy meal. You can even make it ahead of time and add the tater tots just before baking.

Cheese, chili, tater tots…there isn’t much better than that. Especially when you have Omeprazole ODT in your corner to make sure you’ll have no pain!
