OMG you guys, I’m SO embarrassed. Tell me this has happened to you too so I’ll feel better, okay?

Two weeks ago, I went to a birthday dinner for a friend. The other day, she texted me and just wanted to let me know that the Old Navy gift card I’d given her had shown empty.

I don’t remember getting her an Old Navy card, I thought to myself. Then it hit me: I got her a Bath and Body Works gift card, not Old Navy. But on that same shopping trip, I’d gone to Old Navy and spent a gift card I’d gotten for Christmas and thrown the empty card in the shopping bag I was using. In my rush to wrap her gift, I’d blindly grabbed the empty Old Navy card and gave it to her as a birthday gift.

Talk about mortifying! Luckily, she laughed and it’s now become a classic story we can tell. And yesterday, I went online and sent her a REAL Old Navy card.

Pretty much that describes how my brain has been for the past several weeks. I have too much stuffed in there and every time I add something new something else important falls out.

The Super Bowl is this weekend, one of those things I have to keep reminding myself because we also have about 1,234 other things we have to do this weekend. I cannot wait to sit and watch the game commercials and eat ALL THE FOOD. First up: GOOEY CHEESE.

With pesto.

This hot cheesy pesto dip recipe is super easy to make, with just a few ingredients. It’s easy to make for a small crowd or double for a big one.

And if your guests like pesto, they’re going to LOVE this.

But they also have to like cheese.

If they don’t like cheese, they’re not friends.

Cream cheese gets mixed with sour cream, then you stir in pesto, mozzarella, and parmesan. Top it with more mozzarella and bake it – this dip is not for the cheesy faint of heart. Gooey, warm, melty and full of garlicy basil flavor.

I’m not gonna lie: I ate most of this hot cheesy pesto dip myself. WITH A SPOON.

Hot Cheesy Pesto Dip

Hot Cheesy Pesto Dip – this super EASY appetizer is the perfect dip! Just 5 ingredients make a gooey cheesy dip full of basil and garlic pesto flavor!

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (light is okay), room temperature
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, plus more for the top
  • 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons prepared pesto

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Stir cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Stir in cheeses and pesto. Spread cheese mixture into an oven safe baking dish that holds at least 14 ounces (an extra large ramekin will do).
  3. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Serve hot with chips or crackers.

This recipe is easy to double. If doubling, bake in a 9″ pie plate.

  2. Those types of things happen to the best of us – at least you both can laugh about it now! Your cheesy pesto dip looks perfect for the big football game this weekend!

  3. Lol, that will be a great story to always remember! Yes, I feel like I do the same. My brain is on overload right now and when I have to try and cram one more thing in there something else has to go. I call it mom brain and I think we all have it! This dip looks awesome and gooey cheese is my weakness!

  4. Love the look of this dip! Cheesy goodness….YUM!

  5. Dorothy, you know that onion flatbread you posted not too long ago?? I made that this past weekend. My husband said it was one of the best things I ever made. It was really good. Thanks. This recipe looks nice too

  6. What ever happened to the Bath & Body Works gift card? Or did you give her both? Great story. That’s one reason I hate gift cards; I always worry that the money won’t be there when you go to spend it. lol

  7. I have SO many gift cards laying around, I cannot believe that has never happened to me 🙂 and this dip is just perfect for game day!

  8. This sounds geat!!, but is there a part of this recipe that shows prepared pesto? I missed it if it does. How do you make prepared pesto?

  9. Cheesy dips are always a hit around here! So perfect for game day!

  10. Haha! Ok, so that is one of my fears when I give someone a gift card. What if I grab the wrong one? What if the money isn’t really there? At least your friend was totally understanding and now you can laugh about it. Of course, gooey cheese always help get you over these mortifying events! I’d be right there with you eating with a spoon. Yum!

  11. Hi, may I please ask a quick question… Can the Hot Cheese Pesto Dip be prepped the day before and then baked off the day of party??? Thank You…
