In anticipation of my summer traveling as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias, I am sharing my experience with the Samsung Smart Camera and all it’s amazing capabilities – including Wi-Fi!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I love my DSLR. A lot. It takes amazing pictures, but it’s so freaking big! Lately I’ve been really wishing that I had a smaller point-and-shoot for the times I don’t want to have a huge elephant around my neck.

I’d been researching compact system cameras for awhile, in anticipation of our trip to Disneyland in June. I wanted more than just my cell phone to take photos with (my cell phone camera is good, but it’s not real camera good, you know?) but I really don’t want to carry my DSLR around the parks with me for 5 days. When the opportunity came up for me to check out the new Samsung Smart Camera, I jumped at the chance!

Sam’s Club has a great deal on the WB800F Samsung Smart Camera Bundle. This camera is amazing, you guys. Totally freaking awesome. We’ll get to all that in a minute. First let’s talk about what came in the bundle:

The Sam’s Club bundle comes with the camera (obvi), a USB cable and port for charging the rechargeable battery (also included), a strap, carrying case and an 8 GB memory card. I don’t know about you but an 8 GB card is the smallest I buy anymore. I go through them like I go through sugar!

Okay, let’s talk about how amazingly awesome this camera is. It’s gonna blow your mind.

The camera has 16 MP, Full HD Video, and a touch display. YES! I said a touch display! Like on your cell phone, you tap the screen to focus on a certain point. You can also tap to take the photo. You read that right: tap the screen to take the photo!

There is also a full manual mode, as well as aperture and shutter priority modes. That’s something I love about a higher end compact camera – more control over my photos. There are also those fun modes, like Panoramic, Silhouette, Fireworks, and Continuous Shot.

You can edit your photos in the camera too. Brightness, color, cropping, and there are even tons of filters to choose from. You can even turn your kid into a cartoon!

So, that pretty much describes a lot of cameras on the market today, right? But wait. There’s more to this Samsung Smart Camera.

It’s got Wi-fi. Yes, you read that right. This is a Wi-Fi camera. Which means it can do things that will blow your mind.

samsung app

Download the Samsung SMART CAMERA App to your smart phone and you have a fully interactive system. Your camera will use the wi-fi capabilities on your phone to connect with it. So, any photo you take on your camera can be put on your phone and vice versa.

Also? You can use your cell phone as a remote control for your camera.

Samsung WB800F remote

Have you ever taken a group shot and set the timer and then run as fast as you can to your place in the group, sweaty and out of breath and then try to smile for a good photo?

Yeah, that’s not longer necessary with this camera.

Connect the camera to your phone, open the app and you can take the picture with your phone. You can even make the camera zoom in closer on you.

Selfie capabilities just got a little bit more spectacular, right?

Samsung WB800F auto backup

Then there’s downloading pics from your camera to your computer. Find the cable, plug it in, wait for it to register. Not anymore!

With the Samsung AutoBackup program on your computer (Mac or PC) you press a simple button on the camera and your photos get downloaded to your computer, and you don’t even have to be at your desk.

Seriously, that’s my most favorite of all the functions. My computer is super slow whenever I plug in my camera so if I can skip that step, I’m a happy girl.

And then, you knew it was coming right? Wi-fi means social media capabilities. Facebook, Picasa, YouTube, and the Cloud.

Samsung Facebook sharing

Many of you may know that my FIL had major surgery in April. He’s been in rehab ever since, learning to walk again. Last Sunday he got a free pass for the day, in anticipation of his release last Wednesday, so they came for a visit. Jordan made a sign for the garage, and I snapped that photo as soon as he got out of the car.

Before we got settled in the house, I had it on Facebook. That was just so cool, if you ask me.

(My only complaint with the camera is there was no twitter or instagram capability, but I’m sure that’s coming. In the meantime I can sync the camera and my phone and share on instagram that way, which I did here.)

I swear, this camera kind of freaks me out a little. It’s way too smart, probably smarter than me.

I’m so excited to take it on vacations this year, throw it in my purse, and not have a neck ache at the end of the day.

And, for some reason, I’m a little less scared to take it out to the pool with me.

Expect lots of these sorts of Facebook posts in the coming months!

  1. I seriously love that I can actually be in my family photos with this – not always behind the camera!

  2. I LOVE this camera! Guess where I am going later today? Yup, going to Sam’s to see if ours has one in stock. So many fun features…you will teach me how to use it this weekend if I find one right? 🙂

  3. I loved how you can take pictures with your new camera! You can even make your daughter’s picture look like it came right out of a comic strip! Is THAT Cool, or what? All you need is those “thought balloons” you know. like those stickers you attach to prints. 😉

    1. TOTALLY! That would be awesome. There are so many cool filters right on the camera. It’s spooky!
