I love getting sweets for Valentine’s Day. I mean, it’s almost required, along with the flowers, of course. The problem is my husband can’t just go to Target and buy a heart shaped box of candy. I mean, he’s married to a food blogger. It’s not that grocery store candy isn’t good, but compared to the cookies, cake, pie, and cheesecake I have on my counter and in my freezer it just can’t compare.

Usually that means my husband just doesn’t get me candy. But this year, he has no excuse, because we know about Treatsie!

Treatsie is a monthly sweets subscription service that sends sweet treats right to your door. Subscribing to Treatsie is like taking a culinary tour around the country; all of the sweets included in each box are from small, independent vendors around the USA.

Treatsie’s subscription service is $15 per month. Each box contains 8-9 artisan sweets from 3-4 different vendors. Not only are the treats good and sweet, but by buying Treatsie you’re also supporting small business owners around the country. From cookies to caramels, truffles to candy bars, each box is different…and delicious!

{Check out the boxes from previous months here.}

Treatsie sent me the January 2014 box to try. The box included some really sweet things: Brittle Brothers Gourmet Peanut Brittle (which I ate in one sitting, thankyouverymuch), Lavender Caramels from Lillie Belle Farms, and flavored caramels from AvenueSweets. But our favorite thing in the box?

The Popbar hot chocolate on a stick. It’s genius! A block of milk, dark, or white chocolate is on a popsicle stick. Simply heat up some milk, stir, and you have hot chocolate.

When Jordan saw those sticks, she was super excited to try them. She proclaimed the milk and white chocolate ones to be hers and that as a courtesy I could have the dark chocolate.

It was fun to melt down the chocolate into our hot milk. But, um, in the future we’ll use a mug that doesn’t have a zebra on the inside, ha. {Mug from World Market.}

If I’d let her, she would have just eaten the milk chocolate like a popsicle.

She nursed that hot chocolate for about an hour. It was SO good!
