We can pretend cookies with trail mix count as breakfast, right? Especially if they’re Trail Mix Oatmeal Cookies?

Trail Mix Oatmeal Cookies - this easy cookie recipe starts with a Krusteaz cookie mix. You'll be amazed at how they taste!

Jordan has started begging for a TV in her room. I mean, the girl already has a Chromebook she watches YouTube and Netflix on, but no, that’s not good enough. Now she wants a TV so she can watch live TV and HGTV whenever she wants to.

In all honesty, I had a TV at her age, and I was ready to give her one 6 months ago, but Mel is the holdout. At this point though he’s starting to jump on board, even if only because then she’ll go upstairs at 7:30 without complaining and we can actually binge watch Damages and, I don’t know, have a conversation that doesn’t involve Taylor Swift.

I told Jordan she needed to write an essay about why she deserved a TV in her room, complete with paragraphs and correct punctuation and spelling. Yesterday she shared it with me and I gotta say, girl did some good work. Unfortunately she promised to keep her floor clean in exchange for the TV…so she probably won’t be getting it anytime soon. Although I might just get fed up with her interrupting adult time and drive to the Bay Area myself to get the one my mom has been holding for her.

(Seriously, #firstworldproblems much?)

Trail Mix Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

So, let’s talk about cookies. Specifically, Trail Mix Oatmeal Cookies. These are easier than you think to make, and they taste so good. Plus, the trail mix makes them healthy. DUH!

Summer is kicking my bottom, it’s been so crazy busy. A friend of mine moved a few weeks ago and I thought I’d make her some cookies as a housewarming gift. What’s better for a housewarming than cookies? (Well, a few things…like this list of goodies.)

Anyway, I decided that easy cookies > no cookies, so I used a little help from my friends at Krusteaz. I decided to use their Brown Sugar Oatmeal Cookie Mix (which is, honestly, better than my homemade Oatmeal Cookies) and added some trail mix to them to jazz them up. There are only 4 ingredients in this recipe and you don’t need to chill the dough. You don’t even have to use a hand or a stand mixer!

Summer = EASY recipes, and this one is that!

I used my favorite monster trail mix from Target, but you can use any kind of trail mix you like. And if you need more housewarming ideas, check out my post over on Krusteaz!

  1. Cookies make the BEST housewarming gift! A plate of these crunchy-chewy morsels would make unpacking a wee bit easier. 🙂
It’s great to have some “short cut” recipes for times when you need something delicious but just don’t have much time.

  2. Dorothy – these cookies look awesome! I was going along approving submissions when I saw these. I had to find out what 4 ingredients and when I found out it used Krusteaz (my favorite lemon loaf mix is from them) I knew I had to try some – so I called my SIL and told him to bring home some Krusteaz cookie mix and some trail mix so I could make them tomorrow…………..everyone is very happy since; cooking has come to a halt because of the heat!

  3. I love semi-healthy cookies. I mean, if you buy it at Whole Foods, or if it contains oats, it’s absolutely health food, right?

  4. Once the TV is in her room, you will never see her again. And considering she’s headed for that 5-year period when girls can be rough on their moms, maybe that’s a good thing?
I love that your mom is helping you set some ground rules for Jordan in the comments, BTW. Way to go!
These cookies look incredible. I’m sure your friend was grateful that you took time out of a crazy summer to make them!

  5. These look great. I could dip them in the slow cooker brownie pudding that I made yesterday… lol
Tell Jordan that her floor (including closet) needs to stay clean for a month to get the TV. Then you’ll be coming down here anyway. 🙂

  6. I love that you made her write an essay. I would have hated that as a child but now that I have my own daughter I think I just might implement the essay writing tasks. And yes cookies with trail mix are so fine for breakfast.

  7. I kind of want to go hiking now just so I can whip out a trail mix cookie when I’m halfway up the hill. Or maybe I’ll skip the hiking part and just have the cookies. ? These look great!

  8. These look awesome and glad to hear the mix is so good! And it’s easy, even better! Ever since getting my child an iPhone, I don’t see her anymore. Wanna run errands with me? Wanna do something? Wanna leave your room? No, I’m good is the reply with gadget in hand. It’s a blessing and a curse. lol

  9. I love oatmeal cookies. Add in some trail mix and I’ll love them even more! Yum! Happy Friday. 🙂
