Ingredients in Peppermint Fudge

  • Unsalted butter- The creamy base of the fudge, if you use salted then leave out the salt.
  • Powdered sugar- The secret ingredient! Gives the fudge that infamous super-sweet flavor and ultra-creamy texture.
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder- The mocha part of the peppermint-mocha fudge.
  • Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer- You can use milk but coffee creamer gives it that peppermint flavor.
  • Vanilla extract- You can also use coffee extract for more coffee flavor
  • Salt- Just a pinch!
  • Peppermint chip pieces or chopped candy canes- Gives the fudge some texture and adds even more peppermint flavor.

How to Make Peppermint Mocha Fudge

  1. Prepping the pan: Line an 8×8” pan or baking dish with foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Heating and mixing ingredients together: Place a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat. Melt the butter and then add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, coffee creamer, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until smooth and cook until the entire mixture is melted and hot.
  3. Set and serve: Spread the mixture in the prepared pan. Sprinkle with peppermint chip pieces, crushed candy canes, or any other add-ins you like. Let sit at room temperature until cool then chill to set if needed. Slice into squares and serve.
  4. Storing: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Expert Tip

Don’t use anything non-fat or skim to make fudge. Fudge needs fat to set and supply that ultra-silky texture to your mouth!

Heat and whisk your entire fudge mixture until it’s fully hot and melted. This is the most important step. Ensure that the mixture is nice and hot before you take it off the burner so it sets correctly.

FAQs

How do you store fudge?

For serving, fudge is best kept at room temperature but if you’re keeping it longer than a couple of days, store it in the fridge to keep it fresh.

How long does fudge last?

Fudge will last up to 2 weeks in the fridge in an airtight container.

Can you freeze fudge?

Because of fudge’s high sugar content, it is a food that does not grow bacteria easily, therefore, it’s great for freezing. Make sure you freeze it in an air-tight container and put it in the fridge to thaw before bringing it back to room temperature. If you are stacking your fudge in the freezer be sure to put parchment paper in between layers.

Why didn’t my fudge set up?

If your peppermint mocha fudge isn’t setting up chances are it never got hot enough during the heating process. Using a thermometer can help to ensure your fudge is reaching between 234 and 239°F.

Can I substitute other creamers?

You can substitute any creamer you would like! As long as it’s made with whole milk. Anything non-fat will change the consistency of your fudge and it may not set correctly.
