What’s better than brownies? Brownies with Oreos in them! These Oreo Brownies are rich, fudgy and filled with cookies and cream goodness.
I’m sharing how to make them completely from scratch or you can use brownie mix, too. Either way, you are going to love these chocolatey, fudgy brownies.
This Oreo brownie recipe is seriously one of my most favorite brownies ever – the fudgy factor alone is worth every calorie. The are so fudgy my daughter actually thought they were fudge – that’s how good they are.
I am soooooo a fudgy brownie person. I guess there are two camps of people: fudgy and cakey. These are most definitely NOT cakey brownies. These are ultra-rich, chocolatey, fudgy Oreo brownies.
If you want to learn how to make the best brownies – AND put Oreos in them – then THIS is the recipe you’re looking for.

Easy One-Bowl Brownie Recipe
Use a microwave-safe bowl and you don’t have to worry about using two. Using one bowl means you get a fresh-baked batch of brownies just a little faster and, of course, you’ll have less to clean-up. Because dishes are so not fun.
Every brownie has a layer of Oreos baked in the middle. It’s a little cookies and cream surprise.

How to Make Oreo Brownies from Scratch
This is my basic GO TO brownie recipe, so let’s break down how to make them, and why you never need to buy a box mix again.
Here are the ingredients you need:
- Chopped unsweetened baking chocolate
- Chopped semi-sweet baking chocolate
- Butter
- Sugar
- Eggs
- Vanilla extract
- Unsweetened Cocoa
- All-purpose flour
- Oreo cookies
Baking Chocolate: I like to use a combination of baking chocolates (unsweetened and semi-sweet) but you can use all unsweetened. I don’t recommend using all semi-sweet, but you can in a pinch (the brownies get lots of sugar from the sugar added).
The eggs give this the Fudgy factor times 10. You do NOT need leavening like baking soda or baking powder in brownies, that’s what the eggs are for!
I use regular unsweetened cocoa but you can substitute Special Dark or Dutch Process easily in this recipe.
First, place all of the chopped baking chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high power in 30 second increments, stopping to stir between each, until the mixture is smooth. Depending on your microwave this may take two to three minutes total.
Add the sugar and stir to combine. Add the eggs, vanilla, and cocoa powder and stir well until combined. Add the flour and stir until just combined.
Spread half of the batter into your prepared baking pan. Place the cookies in an even layer over the top and then spoon the rest of the batter over the top of the cookies. Use a spatula to smooth the surface.
Bake the brownies for approximately 33 minutes. To check for doneness, insert a toothpick two inches from the outside of the pan. If it comes out clean, they’re ready!
I know it’s tempting to dig in right away, but let the brownies fully cool before slicing. They will taste even better after they settle and set and it will be a lot easier to get clean slices.
How to Make Them with a Brownie Mix
Of course, I want to encourage you to make them from scratch if you can, but I get it! If you’re short on time or ingredients you can absolutely use your favorite brownie mix to make Oreo brownies.
Just skip everything but the Oreos and make the brownie batter following the package instructions. Spread half of it in the pan, top with cookies, and smooth the rest of the batter over the top.
How to Store Homemade Brownies
In the unlikely event you have leftovers keep them in an airtight container. They’ll stay fresh for three to four days at room temperature or pop them in the fridge and they’ll keep for up to we week.
You can also freeze them. This is particularly helpful if you are like me and can’t trust yourself if they’re just hanging out on the counter. You can wrap them individually and store them in a freezer-bag or container for three months (or longer in most cases!). To thaw, just leave them out at room temperature.
I hope you make a batch of these soon – don’t we all deserve a treat? I think the answer to the questions is always YES so enjoy!

Fudgy Oreo Brownies Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped 56g
- 2 semi-sweet baking chocolate, chopped 56g
- 1 cup unsalted butter, sliced 227g
- 2 2/3 cups granulated sugar 332g
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 21g
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 5ml
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 165g
- 24 Oreo cookies
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch pan with foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
- Place chocolate and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high power in 30 second increments, stirring between each, until chocolate and butter are melted and smooth (about 2 minutes, depending on your microwave).
- Stir sugar and cocoa into chocolate and butter mixture using a spatula or wooden spoon. Stir in eggs and vanilla, then stir in salt. Mixture will be grainy looking but smooth. Stir in flour carefully.
- Pour 1/2 of batter into prepared pan. Top with Oreos evenly, then spread the remaining batter in the pan.
- Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until the top is no longer glossy and a toothpick comes out with just a few crumbs when placed 2-inches from the side of the pan. Cool completely before slicing. I prefer mine baked only 25 minutes; if you want yours less fudgy, bake longer.

Ok, this must be heaven! Wooo
Dorothy, you are SO cute with your reduced-fat oreos! I think that all brownies should be fudgy. Cakey brownies are just… Well, chocolate cake squares without the frosting. Not brownies!
My Mac does the same thing! I decided it’s “fudgy,” but it still needs to learn brownies. And bundt. (So does my phone — it doesn’t believe “bundt” is a word either.)
It must be a mac thing. So funny!
I think it’s just “fudge brownies” unless they are “fudgier”…?? lol
btw, these are great (even after being frozen)!!
xoxo
Especially when you remember they’re in the freezer and heat them in the microwave… (BTW, I’m pretending you took half the pan, mmkay? Because they’re all gone and I was the only one to eat the rest…)
Seriouuuusly–these are SOOOO fudgy!!!! I am dying over here!
Thanks Kayle!
just found your site and I love it! Always looking to follow more dessert blogs! and I am excited to try this brownie recipe because I am forever on the search for the perfect from scratch brownie
Enjoy Rachel! And welcome!
I am totally a fudgy brownie person. Also love chocolate and haven’t been getting enough lately. Need one of these ASAP!
Never. Enough. Chocolate!
Hershey’s special dark is my favorite!! And I love the use of low fat in these brownies 🙂
LOL, thanks Julianne!
Spell check hates me and the word “fudgy” – thats okay, who is it to judge me when I get fudgy brownies? These look right up my alley and I love love love that you used reduced fat Oreos because I totally laughed out loud when I read that. 🙂 I almost always use dark cocoa powder, but one time, my dad thought I had burnt the entire pan, the brownies were so dark … I’ve used half and half (regular cocoa and dark) since then;) I wish I could have some right now, they look like they would win my chocoholic heart over in a second!
They are so chocolatey and good! I’ll have to try mixing them, this is my first time using the dark chocolate!
I used fudgy as opposed to fudgey. One less letter to type 🙂
And does anyone like cakey brownies? I really don’t think so from what I can tell. Dry and airy vs. dense and rich and like eating a slab of fudge. Ummm…no comparison.
And yes to baking Oreos into them. I’m a fan as often as possible!
LOL, I would hope not. A cakey brownie is just…cake! 🙂
These look ooey, gooey and delicious! Thanks for OBC – you guys did an awesome job picking out topics and hosts. I’m still not finished reading through everything, but so far lots of good info.
Thanks Jenn! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
