Happy Friday my peeps! I hope you had a great week. I can’t really believe it’s Friday already…and that it’s mid-September. Um, wasn’t it just August?

1. I’ve been trying to come up with a Fall Bucket List for the family. Why? I don’t know. I’ll surely not complete all the tasks and then feel like a failure as a parent.

So instead, I made a Fall Bucket List for Food Bloggers. Because that was way more fun, and I’ll probably accomplish most of the items…

Food Blogger Fall Bucket List

The hair thing? Done.

2. I have been in pumpkin overload lately! This is my newest favorite Fall treat: Spiced Pumpkin Apple Dump Cake.

Well, besides this one: Apple Cheesecake Bars

3. I hit a setback in my whole “think positively about myself” pledge. Last Saturday my back my back went out while doing a squat, and I couldn’t go to the gym (or walk) for a few days. It was nothing serious; I injured my lower back a few years ago and every once in awhile  – usually when I’m stressed and forget to stretch – it twinges and knots up. It’s back to semi-normal now (although I’m still babying my workouts) but the damage to my pledge was instant. The first thing I thought was “well, I’m going to get fat since I can’t workout” and the second thought was “I’ll need to stop eating.” (That second one lasted until lunch.) The “fat” one is ongoing, but I’m trying to remind myself it’s not forever, just a few days, and it doesn’t make a difference.

How do you handle setbacks like this one?

4. One of my favorite pins from last week: This Apple Pie Pull-Apart Bread from Heather’s French Press. Doesn’t it look to die for?

5. This post, my Lemon Meringue Pie Fudge, continues to go insane whenever I share it. I’m taking that to mean y’all love fudge. I’ll be happy to feed that addiction in the coming months!

{Also, the comments have spawned a whole debate on whether or not a 2 year old can have a root canal. I mean, really??}

6. Books I’ve read lately:

Some Kind of Wonderful by Barbara Freethy

Murder in Plain Sight (Hqn) by Marta Perry

I’m also considering re-reading Twilight. Again.

7. How excited are you for the next Hunger Games movie? Only a few months left to wait!

A movie I’m wondering about? 50 Shades. How exactly are they going to bring that to the big screen?

8. The new TV season is starting soon! I can’t wait for Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, and Big Bang Theory. What are you excited about?

9. Thursday was Blogger Spouse Appreciation Day, a totally needed but made up holiday. Go check out the post about my husband and all the other posts too!

10. I’m missing my birthday next weekend because I’ll be at the Duncan Hines Test Kitchen (squeal!) so in order to placate Jordan, I’m having a fake birthday this weekend. So, uh, don’t get confused by all the instagrams, okay? 🙂

11. A few weeks ago we got some news that reminded me that life is precious. A dad in a family we know broke his neck in a horrible freak accident and is a quadriplegic. I cannot even imagine what the family is going through right now, emotionally and physically. Our community has turned out in huge support of the family and the whole situation reminds you to hug your loved ones. Live life fully – today. Don’t waste any moments, don’t take anything for granted. So…go hug your husband, your kids. Call your mom, pet your dog. Life is short, and it can change in an instant.

Peace-out.

  1. not THAT is a bucket list! LOVE it- and I am hugging my family a little closer right now! Happy Friday. I feel so blessed that I can call you a friend – oh and thanks for the shout out

  2. Looking forward to all the delicious pumpkin desserts you’ll be turning out, Dorothy! Also, I’m so sorry about your babysitter’s Dad, what a tough time this must be for them.

  3. I’m really excited for the next Hunger game movie and for Fall TV, especially Parenthood to start again! So sorry to hear about your babysitter’s dad. 🙁 It’s so true, life can change so quickly!

    1. I need to get Parenthood on Netflix. I watched the first season and didn’t after, why? I don’t know. And I know, an instant can change everything. So sad!

  4. I’m so sorry to hear about your babysitter’s dad. My prayers go out to her family today.
That list is wonderful and I need to pin it to remind myself 🙂 I’m so excited for Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and Big Bang Theory!!

  5. Love these posts, Dorothy! Jordan looks so adorable and happy bday to her! And so sweet of you to plan ahead.

The neck break -omg my heart aches for him and the family. So sad and such a reminder as you said.

Your back. Funny..my knee does this to me too and I hate it when I cannot get a proper workout in and have to baby it for week(s) sometimes. I try to remind myself that it’s not the end of the world even though it feels like it at the time (going thru it now)!

    1. I’m sorry about your knee!! That totally sucks. I hope it’s better soon, or we can baby our injuries together next weekend, ha! (And it isn’t Jordan’s birthday, it’ll be mine. OMG if I left on her birthday I’d never hear the end of it!! lol)

  6. I am adding one to the bucket list: Pin every one of Dorothy’s amazing recipes BUT don’t bake and eat them all at once or you will explode! 🙂 Really, Dorothy, I am ok with one irresistible recipe per post but this is unfair. 🙂 Now I need to prioritize (not a strong suit of mine) and I think I am starting with (right after hugging my family and my dog) the lemon meringue fudge.
Life is so short and so precious. I truly wish we could appreciate every moment without any heart breaking reminders. Sigh. My best wishes for your baby sitter’s dad and his family.
Jordan’s pic needs to be the pictorial definition of “peace out” ! What a cutie!
(p.s. My hair started out the color of fall. 🙂 People used to ask me if I dyed it to match my golden retriever!)

  7. omg that list is hilarious!

My prayers are with your babysitters’ father and their whole family! When I was young my dad’s cousin’s husband (I know that sounds distant but we were/are pretty close) fell down the stairs and became a quadriplegic–it’s incredibly difficult and his wife has SO much work to take care of him, but he’s mostly doing ok and he’s certainly still a spitfire lol.

    1. Thanks Kayle! I know it will work out (well, as much as that sort of thing can). I just can’t imagine the stress and toll it’s taking right now! So sad.
