Crust and Crumbs {a printable, a giveaway, and sugar}

Happy Friday my peeps! I hope you had a wonderful week, full of sugar and hugs. I have SO much to share this week, so let’s get started!

1. During our trip to San Francisco last weekend, my husband and I ate at Scala’s Bistro, and Italian restaurant right off Union Square. It was amazingly good, a definite to-be-repeated restaurant. On their menu, there was this quote, and it spoke to me for obvious reasons. (I, of course, added the word “sugary” in front of “dish” and it really hit home.) It struck such a chord with me, I came home and created a printable for you. Click the link below to download an 8×10 image.

3. Want a slice of pie?

frozen biscoff pie (3 of 9)w

I could certainly use a few.

4. I recently discovered my newest favorite author: A.K. Turner.

AK Turner

Those two books, This Little Piggy went to the Liquor Store and Mommy had a Little Flask are snort-inducing, husband-gives-you-weird-looks-while-reading books. Read them.

5. I again ate my way through another trip. It’s become that thing I do.

A Biscoff Latte at the Biscoff store on Pier 39.

A picnic from the Ferry Building, including salumi from Boccalone (their motto is “Tasty Salted Pig Parts”…you need that place in your life).

july sf19

And RED VELVET FRIED CHICKEN.

6. Okay, that last one, the Red Velvet Fried Chicken, along with so many other tasty eats, cupcakes, and a champagne drink called The Princess, are from one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at: American Cupcake.

july sf37

If you live in San Francisco, are traveling there, or even driving through, you MUST stop there and eat. They are a bake shop, selling cupcakes and whoppie pies and cotton candy, but they also have a full dinner menu and are starting to serve brunch too.

The Red Velvet Fried Chicken was the best chicken I’ve ever had. EVER. It was a chicken breast, no bone. The patty was juicy and fresh, and the red velvet coating gave a nice crunch with just a mild sweetness. Every single bite of food we ate was amazing. Seriously – GO THERE.

7. Want a cookie?

Me too.

8. Want to win a $500 Amazon Gift Card? Just a few days left to enter!

9. How amazing do these Chocolate Avocado Donuts by Buns in My Oven look?

I am so making them. SOON.

10. Need any zucchini?

11. This is what I wish I was doing right now:

july sf45

Alas, I’m not.

Instead, I’m making coffee cake because we’re going having Jordan’s cousin over for a sleepover tomorrow night and taking them to see Zendaya at the State Fair. #helpme #getmeearplugs #omgnoooooo

Loving all these little tidbits! I’m headed to work this weekend, but hopefully will still find some time for some yummy treats!

Thank you Jen! I fixed it. I swear, sometimes you’d think those glaring errors would actually stand out, but nope. :)

I buy a zucchini every week for stir-fry or couscous. Obviously we don’t have a zucchini plant :)

I love that you’re still on an avocado kick, however, for the last 6 months or so, avocados have been completely unappetizing to me. It’s the weirdest thing ever. I used to eat one a week!

I don’t think I’ll be buying it any time soon, even though we ripped out the plant. #neverwanttoseeitagain

O.M.G. You’re making me want to book a flight to SF right now. If only I had enough £’s to do so. I’m seriously thinking of selling a kidney or something.

Is it weird that in the UK we call zucchini’s courgettes? And if they get above a certain size, they’re no longer called a courgette, but a marrow instead. Yes, confusing mucho?

And red velvet fried chicken? What the heck? I want some, stat. I’m assuming that the giveaway if only open to US residents too? *sulks off to the corner* Are you only happy with 1 ‘p’? Hehe?

LOL, I’d fly to the UK in a heartbeat for some good chocolate. :) It’s so strange how UK English and USA English can be so different!

I obviously need to go back to Pier 39, I don’t remember any of those cool places being there…..well maybe it has been 6 years or so. Yikes! I guess I will add it to my itinerary for October, or maybe I should just move back so I can grow crazy huge zucchini as well :) Looks like you had tons of fun!

    Hi Dorothy,
I love your blog. I would love to enter the contests, but the rafflecopter never works for me no matter how long I wait (five minutes?) or what button I click. Do you have any suggestions?

I’m sorry! That’s so strange! What browser are you using? Maybe I can troubleshoot with Rafflecopter. Is it ALL rafflecopter giveaways, or just mine? We can try and figure it out!

        Hi Dorothy,
Sorry for the delay in replying to your questions. Yesterday was annual apartment inspection, and I was up to my ears. I use Firefox, and I have an IMac. And all rafflecopter giveaways do not work for me. It’s probably something stupid I haven’t done properly, but I thought I’d ask you just in case it’s not my fault. Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know! I will check with rafflecopter and see what they tell me!

My daughter would cry looking at your amazing zucchini! She planted a container garden this year and apparently the zucchini plant wasn’t happy to be contained. All we got were two very tiny tasty zucchini about 5″ long! Some people would consider your zucchini bounty too much of a good thing. You, on the other hand, find amazing recipes to use them in! I have never heard of zucchini coffee cake but it looks wonderful! I going to have to buy some zucchini and give it a try. I am certainly not waiting for our plants to produce enough! :)
