Alligator Pie - this easy no-bake pie recipe is from the popular kids poem! The kids can make this themselves and it's a fun way to teach the song!

As a Christmas gift, Jordan’s teacher had the kids make calendars. Each month has a theme. April’s theme is “Alligator Pie,” complete with a song and a recipe.

So I couldn’t resist making our own Alligator Pie recipe with her. It’s so easy she could almost do it herself (even at 6!)

All you need is a box of pudding (any flavor), milk and green food coloring, whipped topping, and a crust. We used a graham cracker crust to make it no bake, but you could also use an Oreo crust or a regular old all butter crust from scratch or a box. Once the pie sets (you can eat it as a cream pie or freeze it for an ice cream pie) you just need to turn it into an alligator!

I want to try this Alligator Pie again using mint extract and an Oreo crust…for a nice yummy MINT pie.

In case you’ve never seen the popular children’s poem…

Alligator pie,
Alligator pie…

If I don’t get some…
I think I’m gonna die!
Give away the green grass,
Give away the sky,
But don’t you give away my Alligator pie!
(Song by Dennis Lee)

Enjoy! Make some memories with your kids this weekend!

  1. Oh my god, I remember this when I was in kindergarten! I loved alligator pie, and I couldn’t find the recipe for it, because I lost the paper. It recently popped back into my head, and I’m so happy to know that it’s available online! Thank you so much, I haven’t had this in years. I might make some with my family soon.

  2. thank you so much for this recipe! I remember making this in kindergarten and i never thought i would see it again!

  3. This looks adorable! It would probably be good with pistachio pudding mix too, that way it would still be green without needing food coloring and give it a different flavor dynamic. 🙂

  4. What a cute pie! I think I’ll make one as my son is obsessed with alligators. He sleeps with one he made at Build a Bear years ago.

  5. I made this tonight with a few changes… Let’s just say that I need to take some pie lessons from you… it was hilarious! I hope you like my post tomorrow! xoxo- Rachel 😛

  6. I just realized that I forgot to feature this for today!!! I am SOOO sorry… I have decided to make this myself and feature it on my blog this Friday (I am thinking a pink alligator might be cute)- I will of course be linking back to you so everyone can follow your tutorial!
